Invisalign aligners need to be cleaned regularly. Here's how to keep your Invisalign aligners sparkling.
Rinse your aligners carefully when you take them out of your mouth. Leaving saliva and plaque on your aligners to dry out will cause bacteria to develop. This could eventually lead to cavities, to say nothing of bad breath.Use room temperature or cool water only to rinse your aligners; hot water could damage them.
Brush and floss your teeth before putting your aligners back in, every time. This will prevent food debris from lingering in the space between your aligners and your teeth.
Brush your aligners when you you brush your teeth. Use a toothbrush and mild soap (never toothpaste, it's abrasive!) to clean all the surfaces thoroughly but gently. Then rinse with cool water.
Soak your Invisalign aligners in the official Invisalign cleaning crystals and water, or in Denture cleaner or Retainer Brite. You could or even just use plain white vinegar to remove any buildup and to keep your trays sanitized. Do this at least once a week.
This may seem like a lot of work written out, but it takes very little time in practice. These steps are essential to maintaining your oral health during your treatment, and by extension its ultimate success.
By maintaining these habits, you’ll be able keep your aligners clean and safe, and eliminate the risk of their tasting or smelling foul!
